Bob Nanna is best known as the energetic, passionate frontman for ’90s emo heroes Braid, but he has frequently showed his softer side throughout the years, whether it be one of his side bands like the City On Film or Jack & Ace, or through his ongoing cover song series. So when Artistic Integrity Records asked him to contribute to their upcoming Motown tribute compilation—also featuring the likes of Chris Farren, Kind Of Like Spitting, Kittyhawk and many more—he jumped at the chance to cover the Smokey Robinson & The Miracles classic “You Really Got A Hold On Me.” Nanna explains why he picked the track:

“‘You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me’ is one of my favorite Motown songs—and definitely my favorite Smokey Robinson song—so I figured I could give it my own stripped-down spin on it. Plus, I was able to throw a minor 7th flat 5 chord in there that I just learned in an ‘intro to jazz guitar’ class, so that feels good.”

Not The Same Old Songs: A Tribute To Motown will be released January 1, 2016, via Artistic Integrity Records and can be pre-ordered here.
