Hello, East Coast punk supergroup alert! We’ve caught wind of the formation of eightysixguns, a brand new quartet primarily from the Garden State that is comprised of the Gaslight Anthem bassist Alex Levine, Dropkick Murphys guitarist Tim Brennan, drummer Dan Pelic (ex-Boysetsfire) and vocalist Sammy Kay, who as a solo artist has been a frequent touring companion with the Gaslight Anthem in recent years. (The TGA connections run deeper with Pelic, too; he used to sing for Gaslight guitarist Alex Rosamilia’s metal band Something About Death Or Dying.)
Substream has spoken to Levine, who confirms he and Kay are the band’s songwriting core. He describes their sound as “ol’ fashioned rock and roll,” which we can only hope means something approximating this. The band has yet to release any music (or even a band photo), but their first show will be opening for the Loved Ones at the Sinclair in Boston on February 18, 2016. (Talk about a stacked bill!) In the meantime, add them on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with their activities.
