PREMIERE: Heartist’s acoustic “Skeletons” is powerful and poignant

Orange County, California, quintet Heartist is the best kind of hard rock band—one that knows what keystones to embrace (strong vocal melodies, crunchy choruses, slick guitar solos) and which tropes to avoid (anything tied to the Sunset Strip, basically). Their new album Feeding Fiction is a thrill ride that calls to mind bands like Anberlin and Saosin at their most soaring, but the band has a softer side, too. Today, we’re debuting the acoustic version of their current single “Skeletons,” and it’s astonishing how well the song works stripped down. Frontman Bryce Beckley explains:

“I can count the number of times we’ve performed any of our songs acoustic on one hand, so it goes without saying that I was a bit nervous when it came time to track this. As a band, we have always pushed ourselves to step out of our comfort zones, and this was a pretty big step for me. It was nice to get away from the usual amount of energy and intensity I would normally sing this song with, feel the emotion behind the song, relax and let instincts take over.”

Heartist’s Feeding Fiction is available now via Roadrunner Records.
