Bad Religion fans the world over got really bummed last week when Brooks Wackerman, their drummer for the past 15 years, announced his departure from the band. You can see his statement below:

At the time, no one could’ve guessed what Wackerman’s next move could be. But this morning, we found out, as Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows took to the Talk Is Jericho podcast with Chris Jericho to announce Wackerman as A7X’s new stickman. Shadows comments, via Lambgoat:

“To be honest, Brooks’ name has always been in the mix. It was one of the names we were throwing around when Jimmy passed away in terms of who was going to step up for Nightmare. We felt Mike [Portnoy] was the right choice and we still feel that way. Mike just destroyed on the record. He was perfect. But at the time, our tour manager brought up Brooks’ name as well. But at the time he was also busy with Bad Religion and it was also … people were going to look at it differently because he was a punk drummer at this point.”

A7X currently has no tour dates on the docket, so it is unknown when Wackerman’s live debut with the band will be. But having watched him play with everyone from Bad Religion to the Vandals to Tenacious D throughout the past 15 years, I can say one thing: He’ll be ready.
