PREMIERE: Matt Pond PA’s “Don’t Look Down” video winds down summer in slo-mo

Matt Pond PA has been one of indie rock’s most consistent voices for nearly two decades—namesake Matt Pond has delivered 10 full-lengths loaded with wistful, melancholy, poppy numbers that feel as nostalgic as they feel urgent, the most recent being this year’s The State Of Gold, which we gave a score of eight out of 10 in Substream #46. So when we were asked if we’d be interested in premiering the new music video for The State Of Gold‘s “Don’t Look Down,” directed and shot by Logan Freeman and Abijeet Achar, we didn’t even hesitate to say yes. Pond explains:

“With ‘Don’t Look Down,’ we wanted to recreate the wandering, hazy feeling of killing time in the summer as kids. To be honest, that’s what all time felt like growing up in New Hampshire. The feeling like there was so much more around the corner. Strangely, these moments in between moments were the best times. Thoughtlessness and thoughtfulness perfectly intertwined, it was so much easier to be above the superficial revolutions of a regular day when I was blissfully lost in the emptiness of going nowhere in the summer.”

Matt Pond PA’s The State Of Gold is available now via iTunes. Additionally, Matt Pond and MPPA core member Chris Hansen have formed a new band called the Lowlifes; you can learn more about that project and hear their debut album, Still Summer Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Fury, here.
