PREMIERE: Light Years’ “The Summer She Broke My Heart” is meat-and-potatoes pop-punk at its best

Cleveland quartet Light Years trades in a type of pop-punk that is more about strong hooks and memorable melodies than neon clothes or talking about pizza. What we’re trying to say is that this band isn’t trend-hopping or wave-riding; on their new album, the Will Yip-produced I’ll See You When I See You, they’re simply trying to synthesize all their favorite influences—like Blink-182, New Found Glory, Saves The Day and Alkaline Trio—into catchy-as-hell, meat-and-potatoes pop-punk. Today, we’re debuting my personal favorite track from ISYWISY, “The Summer She Broke My Heart.” Frontman Pat Kennedy explains:

“This song is a lot of fun to play, and we didn’t realize how much we liked until we were in the studio. It came together really well. Lyrically it’s pretty straight foreward if you couldn’t tell from the title of the song. Good luck not getting this stuck in your head as well.”

I’ll See You When I See You will be released November 13 via Rude Records and can be pre-ordered here.
