Drew Thomson is perhaps best-known for his role as frontman for Single Mothers, one of the most chaotic, visceral punk bands we’ve encountered in years. But the Canadian has a softer side, too, as he demonstrates on his new solo release, From Just Behind The Bedroom Door. The stripped-down EP was recorded—where else?—in his bedroom, and contains fragile musings on life and love. Today, we’re debuting “Church Clothes,” a reflection of youth gone by and the excitement of knowingly doing something wrong. Thomson explains:
“‘Church Clothes’ is about that high school boyfriend you cheated on just because you never had the chance to hurt someone before, and how you knew it was wrong—but wrong just seemed so interesting. It’s about the mistakes you wanted to make, if only to see what would happen—and what you could get away with.”
Drew Thomson’s From Just Behind The Bedroom Door will be released December 18 digitally and on cassette via No Sleep Records and can be pre-ordered here.
Drew Thomson has one solo show coming up on October 23 at the Baltimore House in Hamilton, Ontario.
