PREMIERE: Hear Midnight Reruns’ new album ‘Force Of Nurture,’ produced by Tommy Stinson of the Replacements

Milwaukee quartet Midnight Reruns is a throwback to the ’80s—not in a hair-metal sense, but a college radio sense. The songs on their new album, Force Of Nurture are loose, jangly rock ‘n’ roll numbers that could easily rub shoulders alongside the Replacements—fitting, since ‘Mats bassist Tommy Stinson produced the album. But their sound isn’t a total throwback; Midnight Reruns, alongside bands like Phantom Planet and Free Energy, put a modern spin on the tried-and-true method of a little bit of guitar theatrics and a whole lot of catchy hooks. Guitarist/vocalist Graham Hunt comments:

“Thematically, ‘Force Of Nurture’ was born out of uncertainty. While we were writing, we had a close friend pass after being mixed up in bad drugs for a while, my parents were going through a divorce and trying to figure out what they wanted to do the rest of their lives, and I was trying to deal with panic attacks. We all live in Milwaukee, and as much as I love the city, there’s a lot of people in our immediate surroundings that aren’t doing what they want to be doing. Everyone is drinking a lot and making compromises, and that environment certainly comes through in these songs.”

Midnight Reruns’ Force Of Nurture will be released October 23 via Dusty Medical Records and can be pre-ordered here.
