Bay Area post-punk band Wax Idols have released a new single from their forthcoming full-length, American Tragic, which is due for release Oct. 16 on Geoff Rickly’s Collect Records. Stream “I’m Not Going,” which the band premiered at Consequence of Sound this morning, below.

“In light of recent events, it’s hard for me not to think of this song in hindsight as being somewhat prophetic,” said vocalist Hether Fortune. “I feel like it speaks for itself. My only hope is that someone else will hear it for what it is and will receive the message I’m sending, which is to never give up on yourself — no matter what horrors life throws at you.” She elaborated that a divorce inspired much of American Tragic.

American Tragic is the band’s first full-length for Collect Records, who recently responded to controversy surrounding pharmaceutical chairman Martin Shkreli, an investor in the label who made national news for raising the price of a drug by more than 5,000 percent. Fortune released a statement of her own in which she said that profits from record sales at Collect in no way benefit Shkreli financially.
