PREMIERE: Bad Luck’s “Last Bus” is an awesome slacker-pop sing-along

Bad Luck

If you name your band Bad Luck, it would be easy for someone to accuse you of being a pessimist. But then once you start telling them about all the shit your band has gone through, as Bad Luck does on their new single, “Last Bus,” they should understand. And it takes a certain type of person—not a pessimist, but a pragmatist—to sing “Last Bus,” a killer slacker-pop tune that falls in line with early-’00s indie rock like the Strokes as well as the current wave of bands taking influence from ’90s alt-rock, specifically with the song’s massive second chorus. (Oh yeah, that’s right: There are two choruses.) We’ll let bandleader Dominick Fox explain:

“‘Last Bus’ is about reflecting, both positively and negatively, on life/people changing. I wrote it this past summer because 2015 has beat the shit out of me and my band (member changes, getting robbed, plans falling through, etc.), and this song helped me and the rest of the band cope with those things and regain our direction. It’s also somewhat of a fresh start for the band musically, in the direct sense that this song (and all the other brand new ones we’re about to release), genuinely represent what we’ve always wanted to sound like. We hope you like it.”

Bad Luck will release a new EP soon on Tragic Hero Records.
