PREMIERE: Aspiga prove that punk rock and video games go hand in hand with “Fortunes” music video

Ah, the arcade: Is there a more innocent communal space for teenagers in the history of mankind? The sounds of quarters being plunked into machines, buttons being mashed and the occasional curse word when you’re playing as Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat, your combo doesn’t go as planned and Scorpion impales you with that weird hand-spear thingy create a strangely soothing white noise that can’t be duplicated anywhere else. New Jersey punk trio Aspiga hooked up with director Nic Justice to create a music video for their song “Fortunes,” taken from their new album What Happened To You?, which touches on that carefree innocence and the type of bonding that can only occur when you’re playing X-Men on an arcade console with your best buds. The clip is literally just the band exploring a local arcade, from the pinball machines to the mini-basketball game wedged in the back. Vocalist/guitarist Kevin Day explains the idea behind the clip:

“Making a music video can be awkward. This time around we just wanted everything to feel natural and be able to capture our friendship through a lens. Nic nailed it.”

What Happened To You? is available now on Paper + Plastick.
