Mikey Way (My Chemical Romance) to join Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley in new project

So it appears that a year after their frontman almost died due to severe alcoholism, Sum 41 are mounting their horses and heading down the comeback trail this year, but they’re going about it kind of in an odd way: Frontman Deryck Whibley will play a trio of California shows next week under the moniker Deryck Whibley And The Happiness Machines. So, does that mean the rest of Sum 41 will be playing with him? Well, that’s still unclear, even though Whibley has said his band will be playing Sum 41 songs. One thing we can confirm is that former My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way will be joining Whibley onstage for these three dates, as he announced early this morning:

Of course, Way says he’s only playing with him for a few songs, so who knows what that means—maybe they’ll be Sum 41 songs, maybe they’ll be new solo songs, or possibly even cover songs—but if you want to find out for yourself, the Happiness Machines’ current itinerary is below:

7/03 – SANTA ANA Constellation Room
7/05 – SAN DIEGO Casbah
7/07 – LOS ANGELES Lyric Theatre
