While a lot of folks are having mixed feelings about Fox’s onetime-ratings juggernaut American Idol being canceled after 14 seasons, one cool thing did come out of the show’s final season—it turns out Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional fame was responsible for writing “Beautiful Life,” the first single from AI season 14 winner Nick Fradiani. Speaking with Billboard, Carrabba commented about the experience:

“It’s just too good to be true. He found a way to make it instantly his own song. What more can you want as a songwriter? That is what you do. You write these songs with your heart invested in it and as an expression of who you are and hope to be. It just speaks volumes to his talent.”

Carrabba didn’t write the song alone, though; he co-wrote it with Ryan “Rykeyz” Williamson and Ayanna Elese. You can hear the song as performed by Fradiani below, both as a studio version and in a truncated live version that’s in a different key.
