Portland, Oregon’s Lee Corey Oswald are a great example of what happens when four guys who love Weezer, punk rock and cheap beer start a band together. But when LCO frontman Lee Ellis wanted to make a solo record, he knew he had to change things up a little—so expect a bit of the unexpected on his Me And This Army, his upcoming solo debut. Ellis explains:

“The album is split between more electronic songs and more stripped down acoustic numbers. It’s a kind of compilation of my life over the last two or so years which is when I began recording it on my phone and laptop. The lo-fi feel comes from this process, as I recorded different tracks in my bedroom, on the road, the practice rooms in the music building at my old school and even in parks.”

The track we’re premiering today, the keyboard-and-beat-driven “Arthur,” has a really interesting backstory behind it, too, as Ellis reveals:

“‘Arthur’ is a song about quarreling with someone over the internet. I don’t even remember what it was over, but it was just another instance of social media enabling someone to be someone they’re not. ‘Internet presences’ are a real thing these days, for better or for worse, and everyone wants a piece of the spotlight—including myself.”

Me And This Army comes out June 23 on No Sleep Records and can be pre-ordered here. Check out the song (and the totally real cover art) below.
