Say what you will about commercial radio (and trust me, I’ve said plenty), but there’s no denying that Foo Fighters and Rise Against are two of modern rock’s brightest lights. Both bands have sold millions of records and play to thousands of people a night yet are still true to their roots. Case in point: On a recent tour of Australia and New Zealand, Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett came out during Rise Against’s opening set and together they played one hell of a cover of massively influential Bay Area punk trio Jawbreaker’s classic track “Kiss The Bottle” at Auckland’s Mt. Smart Stadium in front of 47,000 New Zealanders—roughly 46,398 of whom had probably never heard of Jawbreaker. See? These two bands always keep it real.
