EXCLUSIVE: Set For Tomorrow – “The Heart Wants What It Wants” (originally by Selena Gomez)

Washington DC natives Set For Tomorrow have been making a name for themselves in the metalcore scene since the release of their debut EP “Prophet Arise” in late 2012. They have since been a part of multiple tours and have even shared the stage with established acts like I See Stars and Silent Planet. Well liked in their hometown Set For Tomorrow has performed all over the DC metropolitan area and are well known as a result. According to recent updates via their Facebook page they are working on a new full length album.

In an effort to continue their momentum in the early weeks of the New Year, Set For Tomorrow has recorded a cover of Selena Gomez song “The Heart Wants What It Wants”. Complete with guttural screams, pristine clean singing, and plenty of electronic influence, the band was sure not to forget the metalcore styling’s they have come to be known for.

A strong performance from vocalists Nick Golden, Michael Canoy and Eric St’ Clair breathe a new life to this track. Chalk it up to the exuberance with which they belt out the memorable choruses and perfectly mesh during the verses. Guitarist Sean Rose and drummer Christian Riggs can be attributed with the catchy atmosphere of the song. The overall flow was reminiscent of the electronic-hardcore music genre utilized by bands like The Browning and Abandon All Ships.

Overall this cover from Set For Tomorrow is a fun and ultimately very enjoyable track for those who enjoy metalcore bands covering pop songs. Their cover would fit perfectly alongside similar tracks in one of Fearless Records: Punk Goes Pop compilations.
