Blockbuster superhero films have been a huge part of the film industry recently, earning plenty of box office success and garnering fandom interest. Marvel Comics have had a majority share of the success this phenomenon has brought forth.
Recently, DC Comics announced a slew of films (scheduled through 2019) they will be bringing to the big screen in hopes to have their heroes share the spotlight. One of the first films on the roster will be 2016’s Suicide Squad.
The flick will feature rogue villains of the DC Universe attempting to redeem themselves through dangerous missions. One of the featured baddies is the infamous Joker of Batman fame. Of course, after Heath Ledger’s astounding performance in 2008’s The Dark Knight, it has been tough to find an actor to play The Clown Prince of Crime.
Now, DC has found their man. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jared Leto will be playing the unhinged madman. Given his proven acting chops (Dallas Buyers Club, Fight Club), Leto has proven himself, but will have to be able to breathe some life into this iconic character fans have been waiting to see again for some time.
