There isn’t anything to say about Jonny Craig that hasn’t been exhausted at length a thousand times before. Troubled as his past may be, his future remains as bright as ever with the formation of Slaves, his new band.
After leaving or being removed from his former bands Dance Gavin Dance and Emarosa, Craig set off to pave his own way. Several R&B singles and a solo EP later, he turned back to his roots. His return to rock music was met with excitement from his fans and apprehension from those who have seen his career twist and turn fervently over the past several years.
With all eyes on him, Jonny formed a supergroup of sorts. Calling on veterans like Tai Wright (Four Letter Lie, D.R.U.G.S.), Jason Mays (Of Machines, Native Suns), and Hearts & Hands members Alex Lyman and Christopher Kim. Together with producer Kris Crummett, they created Through Art We Are All Equals, their Artery Recordings debut.
Complete with guest vocals by Tyler Carter (Issues), Isles & Glaciers collaborator Vic Fuentes, Kyle Lucas, and Craig’s own sister Natalie, Slaves couldn’t have led their career with a better foot. Through Art We Are All Equals is one of the year’s most anticipated records of the year and perhaps the most impressive of Craig’s entire career.
