Hardcore and emotion have seemingly becoming synonymous in today’s scene, but those who scream about what they truly believe always find a way of setting themselves a part. Being As An Ocean quickly cut out for themselves a niche with their debut record, Dear G–, which was a combination of angsty screams and soul-searching spoken word. Their follow-up, How We Both Wondrously Perish, pushes the band in a more melodic direction that places higher emphasis on the spoken word aspect of their music. The first three tracks are a great representation of their sound, but the remaining songs venture too far into the spoken word realm and away from their hardcore roots. While the spoken word aspects of their music are great, this only applies in small doses. How We Both is a great addition to BAAO’s catalogue, but it will most certainly not go down as the band’s defining record.

How We Both Wondrously Perish is available now via InVogue Records.
