We had the chance to chat with up-and-coming band, Once Upon A Time, see what they had to say about their first tour and upcoming EP!

Substream: Your sophomore EP is expected to be released in September, what can we expect from this new EP? Will it be similar to what we’ve heard from you before?

Once Upon A Time: We feel like we did a really good job of recording the album that we wanted. It has a fresh, new pop vibe to it but also has elements from our old music. It’s more fun and upbeat but also carries lyrical substance. We are really big on releasing songs that we can relate to.

S: You’re currently out on your first tour, what kind of expectations do you have for this tour? Do you have any other touring plans for the rest of this year, or early next year yet?

OUAT: We had no idea what to expect. It’s been incredible though. The Hello Highway dudes welcomed us with open arms on day 1, and we’ve never looked back. It’s been so humbling and inspirational to travel to cities we’ve never been before and see people singing back the words to our songs. We’re still working on winter touring plans right now, but you can definitely expect us to be playing shows.

S: Congratulations on your Kickstarter campaign being funded! You had some interesting prizes to offer, do you think fans responded well to the whole campaign? Might you possibly do another in the future?

OUAT: This is another amazing testament to our fans. We’re incredibly grateful for all their support. We tried to offer incentives that were unique from those offered by other bands. Those ranged from handwritten postcards from the road to Starbucks dates before shows to guitar/piano lessons. We really just wanted to make it a personal experience for everyone. We have no plans to do one in the future, but still hope to make as many cool memories with fans as possible!

S: Is there anything about Once Upon A Time that you would like people to know, that the might not already know about you guys?

OUAT: We’re just three normal kids who are taking a chance on our dreams. It’s as simple as that. The journey’s been incredible so far, and we hope that any success we may have will inspire others to follow their dreams too!

S: Anything else you’d like to add?

OUAT: Thank you for the opportunity to interview with you, we love everything that Substream does. To the fans, thank you for all your continued support. It amazes us every single day. We’re working hard and can’t wait to see what comes next!

Once Upon A Time formed when friends, Andrew Long (Vocals) and Jamie Dicarlo (Guitar) decided to join together and start a band. Recently, the guys have met up with Connor Schnepf (Piano) to complete their sound. Prior to releasing any recorded material, the band had gathered an active following that landed them multiple shows on Allstar Weekend’s All The Way tour and The Rocket Summer’s Life Will Write The Words tour. In early 2012, OUAT released their debut EP, “Open Your Eyes.” The album has since generated a great amount of online buzz, earning the band tens of thousands of followers.

Since the release of their debut EP, Once Upon A Time has played shows with the likes of This Century, Artist vs. Poet, Hollywood Ending and more. OUAT was feature as one of Alternative Press’s “Bands You Need To Know” in their May 2013 issue. Recently, the band has received a lot of attention for their cover of Demi Lovato’s, “Heart Attack.” The band will finished recording their sophomore album with Colby Wedgeworth (The Maine, This Century) at the end of July and expects it to be released in late September.

This summer, OUAT has been on their first nation tour with Hello Highway and Jocelyn. On the Timeless Tour, the band played in over 10 cities for hundreds of kids each night and continued their growth as a band.

The band’s newest single, “Nobody,” is sure to please the band’s current fans as well as show off the band’s more mature, pop/rock sound to those new to them. You can check out the live stream of the song here as well as on iTunes here.
