A lethal game of chance? A Japanese restaurant? No matter what image comes to mind when you hear the name, it’s clear upon first listen that this electronic-punk band is unexpected and dangerously fun. With frontwoman Anna Worstell, drummer Shane Wise, guitarist Nathan Barlowe, and keyboardist Zach Hall, the Nashville four-piece inject the electronic scene with a heaviness that stems from the in-your-face attitude of punk rock. Having recently released their new EP ‘The Rising’ for free, the group with the piercing name will be taking on Warped Tour all summer long. Read below to learn more about why the band chose their particular moniker.

Who came up with the band name?

Was there a selection process?

Not really. Five Knives was a name he had in his head for a while. He had kicked around starting a label or T-shirt company called that, but the band won out.

Is there a particular meaning behind the name?

I think it’s Navajo for badass.

What’s the best name that you considered but rejected?

There was no other.

What’s the worst name that you considered using?

The Beliebers.

Any regrets about the name you chose?

The first time we ever walked a red carpet, one of the photographers thought our name was Five Guys. Now we can’t even eat there anymore.
