Midwestern indie-pop outfit Abandon Kansas have premiered a brand new track entitled “You+Me+The Radio” along with announcing their new self-funded 3-song EP, A Midwest Summer, produced by Dustin Burnett. The EP comes on the heels of their most recent Gotee Records release Turn it to Gold, and will hit all digital retailers on June 11th. The release will act as a pre-cursor to the band’s full-length concept album, due out later in 2013. Abandon Kansas has spent the past few years hovering on the Christian rock charts, with over 800 national headlining tour dates with artists like The Wedding, From Indian Lakes, and Farewell Flight under their belts. The band also saw support tours with House of Heroes and The Classic Crime during 2010.

Along with their new single and EP announcement, the band has unveiled a brutally honest biography video at, which touches on the struggles of transitioning from the cushion of an upper echelon indie label to a completely DIY situation, as Abandon Kansas made a clean break from Gotee, officially announced in March. Vocalist Jeremy Spring states, “Gotee was a great home for us in the beginning. We were able to educate ourselves in the music industry and discover we had just as good of a shot putting out a successful record independently as we did being signed to a label.” And so it goes for the Wichita-based indie-rock group, nestled somewhere between the tone-heavy licks of Young the Giant and the dance-driven beats of Paper Route. The band is not only funding their entire new release, but are doing it completely on their own terms. “We were able to hand-pick our creative team,” says Spring. “The first step was getting in the studio with Dustin Burnett, based in Spring Hill, TN, who we really connected with from the get go. Our goal was the same – make music that we love.”

Fans can expect a music video for “You+Me+The Radio” on May 15th, along with a pre-order announcement to coincide with its premiere. A Midwest Summer will be available for a “pay what you want” ledger via Bandcamp from June 1st-10th, and will officially hit all other digital retailers on June 11th.
