You might not yet be familiar with the name Fire Is Motion, but give it a few weeks and the world is sure to be singing their gospel. New Jersey’s seemingly endless arsenal of artists continues to churn out some of the most carefully crafted and gripping work, each re-affirming the idea that there is something in that particular state’s water supply that is responsible for consistently creating the best in the craft. Fire Is Motion is born of the same wave of New Jersey giants as Pinegrove and Hodera; the trifecta is known for creating some of the most emotionally wrought and technically pristine folk-leaning indie rock.
Today, they announced a new EP called Still, I Try with a new song called “Ringside.” I heard that song for the first time today and was immediately floored. It was very much one of those jaw-dropping, I feel like I’m literally living the dizzy Mr. Krabs meme moments that I live for. The track feels like fall; each drum hit feels like the crisp sound of leaves being crushed beneath your feet and the vocals have this smokey, almost hypnotic feel to them that lingers just long enough to leave you hanging on every word.
