Kathryn Bigelow is one of the best directors in Hollywood today. While Point Break is still an amazing action flick, Bigelow’s more recent and most critically acclaimed work comes against the backdrop of war in the Middle East with The Hurt Locker and and Zero Dark Thirty. Today a trailer dropped for her new film Detroit, and this time Bigelow is focusing on a historical conflict right here on American soil.

The movie takes place in the titular city during 1967. Racial tensions in the city escalated into riots, and that’s where we find John Boyega playing the main character, a local cop. Against the backdrop of the larger riots, the story follows one house where a gag with a starter pistol brings the National Guard down in full force, guns first. Just the trailer will have you heart racing, as Bigelow looks to continue the master filmmaking that won her Oscars in 2010.

You can watch the trailer for Detroit below. The movie is set for release on August 4.
