Nicolas Espinosa and Sean Wouters have known each other since elementary school. In high school, the two began playing around with music and eventually came to form Deaf Poets. It’s all those years of friendship and growing together that has led the garage rock duo to excel in their musical career. Since forming, they’ve had their song “Degenerate Mind” featured in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 game and also played shows with an impressive roster of bands such as Best Coast, Matt & Kim and The Naked and Famous.

“Are You DP” is the epitome of the Deaf Poets sound, steeped with lo-fi guitars and booming drums. The song comes from the band’s upcoming album, Lost In Magic City due out May 5. When asked about the song, Espinosa said:

“‘Are You DP’ is one of our favorites to perform live. The fast tempo and steady pace makes it a fun opener, both live and for the record. The song is about false promises and passing the blame to others when we are responsible for our problems/shortcomings. We’ve incorporated our initials in the track title since the theme was borrowed from our personal experiences.”
