When Netflix released The Get Down in August, we fell in love with the story of the musical and cultural journey of the South Bronx during the 1970s. Specifically, Justice Smith and Herizen F. Guardiola shined as main characters Ezekiel and Mylene. Somewhat unusually for Netflix, they didn’t release the full run all at once, instead splitting it in half. With the release of a trailer for the second installment in the series, we have our first glimpse of where the story goes from here.

The first part of the trailer is a recap in the form of an episode of Inside The Music. Our two leads are on the top of the music world, Ezekiel with hip-hop group The Get Down Brothers and Mylene heading her disco group Mylene Cruz and The Soul Madonnas. From there it appears their careers are set to go down different paths. Mylene sees her star continue to rise as the face of disco. Meanwhile, Ezekiel must contend with how others see his connection with DJ Shaolin Fantastic (Shameik Moore), derisively referred to as a “thug” by one of the white studio execs. Through voice over we also hear Ezekiel question how true to himself he’s staying while trying to navigate stardom. Watch the full trailer now:
