Ewen McGregor has played a lot of roles since he portrayed heroin addict Renton in Trainspotting all the way back in 1996. He’s been the lead in a musical in Moulin Rouge!, a Jedi in the Star Wars prequels, and he’s about to be a talking candlestick in Beauty and the Beast. At the end of this month he’ll return to the role of Renton in the strangely titled sequel T2 Trainspotting, and today Sony Pictures released a final trailer for the film.

Renton is clean now, but it seems that life hasn’t gotten much easier. He still has an addictive personality and is apparently struggling to find a way to channel it. Along with McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle have all also returned to reprise their original roles. Danny Boyle is once again directing, and if the trailer is anything to go by, he’s brought the same frenetic energy and gritty sensation of the original into the 21st century.

T2 Trainspotting will be released on March 31, which is plenty of time to watch the original if you haven’t already. Check out the full trailer for the sequel below.
