North Carolina songwriter Steven Fiore—known best in the music world as Young Mister—is beginning production on his second album with producer Taylor Bray in Nashville, but his newest track, which we have the honor of sharing with you today, is a one-off experiment that will stand alone from any future releases. Fiore has teamed with longtime friend and producer Nick Bays to shift gears a bit and craft a radio-friendly pop song that’s sure to leave a lasting impression with listeners.

“Nick and I have been friends and fans of each other’s music for about seven years now,” says Fiore. “We’ve had the ‘Hey, we should write together!’ chat so many times, but we were finally able to make it happen last fall when I had a couple days off after playing Chicago (Nick’s home base). He’s been doing more electronic inspired music lately, which is something I’ve always been curious about experimenting with. I came up with the concept in the car on the way to his place. After a few minutes of my best (still terrible) beatboxing to show Nick the idea I had in mind for the track, he quickly created the foundation for the song.” He continues, “We sipped brown liquor and bounced ideas off each other for a few hours and before we knew it, the song was done and we were eating celebratory Chinese food. This song won’t be on the new album and it isn’t a sound I plan to explore much further, but it was an extremely rewarding short-term departure.”

You can listen to Fiore’s and Bays’ moving collaboration below via its old-timey lyric video and follow Young Mister on Facebook to keep up with any news on the band’s next album.

“Safety” can be purchased right now through Refresh Records where you’ll receive an immediate download. The single will be out officially through all other streaming platforms this Friday, February 24.
