Austin, Texas duo Hovvdy—the writing and recording project of Charlie Martin and Will Taylor—write intimate and often moving songs that channel influences from the likes of Elliott Smith and Alex G. It looks like the upward surge in media attention for their debut album, Taster, caught the attention of Double Double Whammy Records, as the reputable label has just welcomed them onto their roster.

Signing Hovvdy couldn’t have been a better fit for Double Double Whammy, seeing as they’ve helped raise the profile for artists such as Porches, Frankie Cosmos, and pop-punk unit QUARTERBACKS. While the duo is hard at work recording their follow-up to Taster, they will be taking a break in the spring to support Americana-tinged indie rockers Pinegrove for a number of dates in the Northeast. DDW will also be reissuing and remastering Taster, due out on April 14, which sounds like a great start to acquaint yourself with the band’s  contemplative lo-fi ballads.

Indie rock fans should make an effort to attend one of these shows. Not only will they potentially discover their new favorite band, but they’ll also witness one of the leading bands of the current new wave of emo.
