There is no other band in the world quite like Weezer, but I imagine anyone reading this right now is already aware of this fact. For over two decades now the rock band led by Rivers Cuomo has played in a sonic arena entirely their own, and along the way they have created some of the most memorable music videos of our time. Remember when the band appeared on Happy Days? How about that time they were at a sumo wrestling match? Both of those clips are great, as are most Weezer videos, but there is something special in the mix with the band’s latest release, and its name is Patton Oswalt.
Fans of stand-up comedy will recognize Patton Oswalt as one of the biggest comics working today. His razor-sharp critiques of culture have made him something of a comedic icon, and his work on the silver screen in films like Big Fan and Young Adult have shown him to be capable of much more emotional depth than some may have initially believed possible.
For his role in Weezer’s latest video, which is for the song “I Love The USA,” Oswalt dons an outfit covered in American flags. His character somehow finds his way into the oval office when no one is looking, and as soon as he knows he is alone he begins to make himself at home. Hilarity and killer guitar solos soon follow. Check it out:
“I Love The USA” was released just hours before the second Presidential debate, and to be honest it took everything in us to not share the video endlessly instead of getting lost in the war of words taking place between Clinton and Trump. The world is a scary place right now, which is why we need lighthearted material like this to remember life is not all bad. There is a lot of joy to be found in the world, and anyone in need of a reminder of that need look no further than the video above. In fact, watch it again and see if you don’t walk away with a smile on your face.
The White Album is available now wherever music is sold.
