Taking Back Sunday have grown up in the harsh lights of venues and festivals around the world. There are people attending their shows today that were not even alive when their debut album arrived in stores at the turn of the new millennium, and that fact only speaks to how prolific the band has become. They are no longer the voice of a generation, but the voice of generations, expressing a perspective on life that is firmly rooted in reality while their eyes are forever fixed on the stars. Their songs speak to universal experiences, and their latest single from their forthcoming studio album is no exception.

“You Can’t Look Back” is about pursuits; it’s a song about the things we do and why we do, as well as the things we tell ourselves when the going gets tough. Most will probably associate this journey with the band’s career in music, which has undoubtedly caused stress and heartache in other areas of their individual lives over the better part of the last two decades, but like all great TBS songs “You Can’t Look Back” can be applied to other experiences as well. It’s about a feeling you get in the pit of your stomach and how it can guide you or destroy you based off the decisions you make. Take a listen via the song’s official video below:

Pretty wild, right? That twist ending is sure to spark conversation.
