The ninth annual Outside Lands Music + Arts Festival blew through a chilly Golden Gate Park in San Francisco this weekend as thousands of attendees came to enjoy the best in music, food, beer, wine, art, comedy, and of course, the beautiful locale. Surrounded by trees, with both mist and the various smells of local restaurants and foods trucks in the air, the three-day fest was host to headliners LCD Soundsystem, Radiohead, Lionel Richie, Lana Del Rey, and more.
Some might argue that the best set of the weekend belonged to Muppets band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem (and they’d be right), but there were plenty of exciting performances each day—many coming from lower-billed acts like Ibeyi, Vulfpeck, St. Lucia, and the Wombats. We spoke to some attendees who came early Saturday morning and stood in the same spot for 11 hours just to ensure they were front row to see Radiohead. Others crammed in as many sets as possible while quickly shoveling down donut cheeseburgers or chorizo bacon dogs between stage treks and washing them down with local craft beers. No matter the game plan, though, Outside Lands always delivers with plenty of variety and a whole lot of fun. 2016’s edition was no different.
