The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hype train is in full gear, as Lucasfilm has been feeding us a steady diet of trailers, teasers, posters, and sizzle reels. Tonight we have a new trailer for Rogue One and it has us fully ready to buy our tickets right now.
The beginning of the trailer gives us a look at just how dire the circumstances are for our heroes before Episode IV. The Republic is dead, and the Galactic Empire is tightening their grip on the galaxy with the construction of a massive super weapon. That’s where our hero Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) steps in. We see a bit more of her initial meeting with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), and a lot more of Erso’s banter with Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. The trailer does a good job of combining humor—Alan Tudyk as K-2SO deadpanning to Erso, “The captain says you are a friend… I will not kill you”—with a healthy dose of action. The blind Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen) in particular takes out a ton of Stormtroopers. And while Ben Mendelsohn’s Director Orson Krennic looks to be a fearsome villain, the moment everyone will be talking about is the distinctive helmet and labored breathing that closes the trailer.
