It’s been almost two months since the first trailer for Moana hit the internet. The animated musical looked fantastic then, and it looks even better in the newly released teaser that ran on Sunday night during the Olympics.
This new trailer showcases more of the interactions between star Auli’i Cravalho’s Moana and Dwayne Johnson’s demigod Maui. The animation is stunningly beautiful, and Maui’s moving tattoos look amazing as well. We also get a better sense of the adventure the two are on, with the seas and islands of Oceania providing a spectacular backdrop for our heroes, an army of bad guys, and one very angry lava monster. The movie has music written by Opetaia Foaʻi of Oceanic group Te Vaka, Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Hollywood’s Mark Mancina, which is quite an impressive collection of musical minds. During the new footage we get to hear more of the song Miranda sang in the first trailer. The trailer has a quality mix of humor, tenderness, adventure, and music that indicates Moana is going to be an excellent entry into the pantheon of Disney animated films.
If you love animation, Disney, music, grand adventures, or any combination thereof, it’s safe to say you’ll want to go see Moana. The film drops on November 23, the day before Thanksgiving. While you wait for Moana‘s release, watch the new footage from Sunday night below.
