Movie posters have been an integral part of film culture for an incredibly long time. There are some that end up being iconic, like the Godfather, Goodfellas, and Scarface posters that are in virtually every college dorm in the country, or the instantly recognizable works of Drew Struzan (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, etc.) Even the posters that don’t end up entering pop culture lore are still home to some fantastic art and craftsmanship. It’s this aspect of the film industry that the documentary 24X36: A Movie About Movie Posters looks to explore (via EW).

The documentary looks to cover the heyday of poster art, with many instantly recognizable posters appearing in the trailer. The film will also discuss the current movement of fan-made art, as studios have moved away from hiring artists to make posters. With interviews from both directors and poster artists, 24X36 looks to be a fascinating watch.

24X36: A Movie About Movie Posters is set to premiere at Fantastic Fest, which begins September 22 in Austin, Texas. You can watch the first trailer below.
