It’s no secret that this writer is a huge fan of Vin Diesel (see this article for proof). Besides starring as Dominic Toretto in the Fast and Furious franchise, the charming tree monster Groot in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and the titular robot in The Iron Giant, Diesel also starred as Xander Cage in the original xXx (read: Triple X) film all the way back in 2002. Ice Cube took over the starring role in 2005’s xXx: State of the Union, with no sign of Diesel in the film. Now, fourteen years after the original, we have a trailer for a new film in the franchise titled xXx: Return of Xander Cage. You could probably guess who is starring in this movie based on the title. That’s right: My. Man. Vin.
With Samuel L. Jackson narrating in his return to the role of Agent Augustus Gibbons, we see very little in the way of plot and a ton in the way of action. It’s safe to say that the action shown is 100 percent absolutely bonkers. How are we reintroduced to Cage? By having him jump off of a tower before skiing through the forest. He also skateboards on the side of a truck because physics don’t apply to Vin Diesel. We also get a look at Donnie Yen’s (Ip Man, Rogue One) and Ruby Rose’s (OITNB) characters getting in on the ass-kicking as well. Does it look ridiculous? Absolutely. Am I going to go see it? You know it.
xXx: Return of Xander Cage is being directed by D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, I Am Number Four) and lands in theaters January 2017. You can watch the trailer below courtesy of Diesel’s Facebook page.
