Brooklyn singer-songwriter Oscar Albis Rodriguez, performing under the banner of Albis, creates songs that land in that perfect intersection of poignant acoustic music—attributed most accurately to Elliott Smith—with hints of punk influences that have found similar results in great acts like Frank Turner and Chuck Ragan. On Albis’ newest single, “Broken Man,” Elliott Smith undoubtedly shines through, but with elements that bring to mind the solo works of Joey Cape and Vinnie Caruana—and oddly enough, Atomic-era Lit (specific enough?).

When asked to provide some insight on “Broken Man,” Rodriguez simply offered:

“It’s a wonderful life, don’t waste it.”
