There are about a million reasons why the first season of Marvel‘s Jessica Jones was fantastic television, and one of those reasons was Mike Colter’s Luke Cage. We’ve known that Cage has been getting his own Netflix series for a while, and we saw a very brief teaser after season two of Marvel’s other superhero show on Netflix, Daredevil. As part of the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con, we got a slightly longer look at Luke Cage.
The trailer—set to “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” by late Wu-Tang Clan founding member Ol’ Dirty Bastard—finds Cage fighting crime in Harlem. When the man they’re going up against has super strength and unbreakable skin, it’s not going to end well for the bad guys. This is especially true once Cage decides to wield a car door as a battering ram. We also get a hint of the story arc of the season at the end of the trailer when Cage talks to Cornell Stokes/Cottonmouth, one of the men responsible for giving Cage his powers. Stokes is being played by Mahershala Ali (House Of Cards), continuing the trend of Marvel’s Netflix shows having phenomenal villains.
Check out the trailer below. Season one of Luke Cage will be released on Netflix on September 30.
