Blending pop-punk sensibilities with a sound that harkens back to the heyday of Motown is no easy feat, but the trio known as Empty Houses have pulled it off with their upcoming debut album, Daydream. Featuring members of Fireworks, the latest group to join Sargent House Records has shared a new performance video made with the team at Real Feels TV that you simply have to see to believe.
Before you head to the comments to tell us the music featured in this post is far from pop-punk, let us beat you to the punch and tell you that we already know that to be true. Still, it’s impossible to listen to the music of Empty Houses and not hear melodies and hooks that could easily have found their way into any Fireworks album, especially Gospel or Oh, Common Life. Dave Mackinder has a very specific songwriting style that has always leaned heavily on the pop element of pop-rock, and in our opinion it has never been executed better than it is on the material he is now creating with Empty Houses. You can view the band’s recent performance of “Thunderstorms” below as proof:
Daydream arrives in stores through Sargent House next Friday, June 10. We have something special up our sleeves to celebrate the album’s release, but we cannot unveil what that thing is just yet. In the meantime, head over to Empty Houses’ online store and grab a copy of the record on CD, vinyl, or as a digital download as soon as your finances allow. You do not want to spend your summer without this record. Trust us.
