The Avett Brothers are hard at work preparing for the release of their new album True Sadness, and we couldn’t be more excited for the return of the North Carolina group. The band recently shared a brand new track from the effort (via Billboard), titled “Satan Pulls the Strings,” which has us counting down the days until the album’s June 24 release.
“Satan Pulls the Strings” finds the band working with legendary producer Rick Rubin, and the result is a wholly unique and captivating sound. Of course, since we’re talking about The Avett Brothers, the musicianship is outstanding, with a perfectly played banjo line tying the whole song together.
On the creation of the song, Seth Avett says, “‘Satan Pulls the Strings’ started as a quiet and calm Depression-era banjo song, and somehow in the studio, it blossomed into a genre that I don’t even have a name for…the frenzied yet mechanical energy of it is a first for the band.”
