Austin, Texas-based psych-rock trio BOYFRNDZ changed their focus a little bit on their new album, Impulse. The songs are airy and moody, focusing more on an overall vibe and groove than ever before. (Spending time on the road with Trail Of Dead and Deftones/Isis side project Palms will do that to a band.) You can hear the fruits of BOYFRNDZ’s labor on “Little Secret,” a keyboard-driven groove monster that is carried by vocalist/guitarist Scott Martin’s delicious falsetto vocals. Martin comments:

“I’d been sitting on the main riff for a little over a year, I knew I wanted to use it. The harder part was trying to translate it from what I heard in my head to what it sounds like now. A lot of times it doesn’t work out. I’m happy it seemed to this time. The boys made it easy on me.”

BOYFRNDZ’s Impulse will be released May 27 via Brutal Panda Records and can be pre-ordered here.
