When it came time for Massachusetts emo-pop quintet Save Ends to write their follow-up to 2013’s Warm Hearts, Cold Hands, the band turned inward, looking for deeper inspiration than your average love song. The result was this year’s Hug Your Friends EP, which earned its title after a friend of the band suddenly passed away. It makes their new single “I Fell Asleep” even more powerful, given that the song was written from the perspective of losing someone suddenly. Vocalist/guitarist Christine Atturio elaborates:
“When it came time to make a video for ‘I Fell Asleep,’ we wanted it to be something that could evoke the emotion of the song without being too heavy handed. Our friend Mason Marino was more than excited to try a very artful approach to a music video. Using paintings by a mutual friend Paul Thibedeau and overlaying that with videos of the band, scenery of Boston and scenery outside the city, Mason put together a really cool visual.”
Save Ends’ Hug Your Friends EP is available now via Black Numbers.
