Marvel’s ever-expanding cinematic universe will welcome Doctor Strange this November as Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the titular role. The film’s first teaser trailer premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and the results offer beautifully realized realities and a focus on the eventual Sorcerer Supreme’s mystical origins.
After an accident leaves him badly injured and ultimately destroys his career as a surgeon, Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange goes on a quest of sorts, eventually coming into contact with The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) who shows him “possibility,” a life-changing experience that leaves him wanting to learn everything she’s able to teach him. We only get a glimpse of Strange’s infamous caped costume, but we do get to see gorgeous, Inception-like imagery of the twisting and turning realities Strange’s mentor opens his mind to. It’ll be exciting to see how Marvel ties this Doctor Strange storyline into the rest of the MCU down the line.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, and starring Cumberbatch alongside Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen, and Rachel McAdams, Doctor Strange will open in theaters on November 4, 2016. Will you be standing in line?
