The MTV Movie Awards aired last night, and during the event several new trailers and clips promoting upcoming films were shown for the very first time. Among them, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them shone brightest. The film, which stars Eddie Redmayne, reintroduced the world to the magic of the Harry Potter franchise in under three minutes without giving away much, if any, plot.
Set decades before the events of Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone, Fantastic Beasts tells the story of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), an exiled creature-courier and former Hogwarts student who never travels anywhere without a magical suitcase. Upon arriving in 1920s-era New York City Newt finds himself on the radar of Percival Graves (Colin Farrell), a wizard who’s trying to track him down, as well as Porpentina Goldstein (Inherent Vice‘s Katherine Waterston), a witch who helps him make his way through Manhattan. The trio will have to stick together if they hope to understand the strange magic on the streets of Manhattan, but unfortunately the trailer cuts off before too much story is revealed. You can view the footage below.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them will be the first in a new trilogy of Harry Potter spinoffs that the world will see in years to come. The film will release on November 18 in theaters and IMAX.
