Long Island alt-rock unit Envy On The Coast always seemed a little bit ahead of their time. After two killer full-lengths and a dynamite EP, the band hung it up in 2010 and moved onto other projects such as NK, Heavy English and the Hand That Wields It. It was at a recent show of one of those new bands, 1st Vows—fronted by former Envy On The Coast vocalist Ryan Hunter—where the crowd received a special gift during the encore. At 1st Vows’ April 4 gig at the Studio at Webster Hall in New York City, Hunter was joined onstage by Envy On The Coast guitarist Brian Byrne, and together the pair performed two EOTC fan favorites, “Like I Do” and “The Gift Of Paralysis,” for the first time since the band’s 2010 breakup. You can see the performances below.

Following the performance, Byrne and Hunter released a statement on the long-dormant EOTC Facebook page, writing in part, “We’ve tried to get this together with the five original members, but for many reasons, it just doesn’t seem that’s going to happen in the near future… We miss playing these songs. We want to play these songs again. This is the best we can do right now. If this is something you’d like to see happen, we’re listening.”
