Substream has learned that Long Island musician Rob McAllister passed away today, January 10, from undisclosed causes. He leaves behind his longtime girlfriend as well as a daughter. A YouCaring fund has been started to help them out. McAllister is best known as the guitarist for Iron Chic [pictured above center], the punk band formed in the wake of Latterman’s breakup in 2007. McAllister was a part of the group from its inception, most recently playing on their 2013 LP The Constant One, released on Bridge Nine Records. However, McAllister is not currently listed as a member of Iron Chic on their Facebook page, nor did he accompany the band on their recent tour of Australia or their recent U.S. dates with Dillinger Four; it appears he either left the band or was asked to leave at some point in mid-2015.
McAllister was well known and respected in the Long Island scene, playing in numerous bands throughout the years including Revelation Records hardcore act Capital as well as a more recent band, Secret Lives, which was an Iron Chic side project also featuring bassist Gordon Lafler.
While many of McAllister’s friends and family members have taken to his Facebook page to memorialize him, the band has yet to release a statement. We have reached out to Iron Chic’s publicist for comment and will update the story when we learn anything more.
UPDATE: Iron Chic has issued a comment via Facebook:
“It is with the heaviest of hearts and deepest regrets that we must say goodbye to a dear friend. Although we had recently parted ways it makes the reality no easier to bear. Every wild ride must come to an end so rest in peace Robert Mcallister and give our regards to Lemmy. We’ll miss you always.”
Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and fans of Rob McAllister.
