If you were to look up “high-energy” in the dictionary, you might find a picture of Nova Rockafeller next to it. Born in Canada but raised in Jamaica, this young hip-hop artist is quickly getting ready to takeover the world. She’s a mix of sugar and spice, and it’s safe to say that she’s probably a little more spicy than sweet…in a good way, of course.
Substream Magazine: Let’s start off with some introductions. Tell us a little about yourself.
Nova Rockafeller: I’m Nova Rockafeller, Jamaica raised rapper child from the land of the Trailer Park Boys. Right now i’m covered in green paint. Lasertag on Fridays. Risk on Saturdays. I’ve dated lots of fuck heads and I’m always down to date more. 3475747192
SM: What inspired you to start making music?
NR: Oh you know. Notes and books and scales and feelings. I JUST WANT TO RIP ALL OF IT OUT AND PUT IT INTO SONGS. and my brother played guitar and he’s cool so
SM: What would your dream tour be?
NR: I want to do a lasertag tour. I might not even rap I’m so good at lasertag I think most people would come just for that.
SM: You have an interesting background, being raised in Jamaica. Do you think that helps you stand out from the others? What kind of influence has it had on your music?
NR: Trust me i don’t need Jamaica to help me stand out. I feel like everybody is at a different party, and i’m like, here in my head, just thinking shit. Put on any beat and I turn into fucking Elephant Man. RAH RAH RAAHHH ZIM ZIMMA shit forever. I’m trying to get my dad to buy me a ticket to Jamaica in August so i can buy a pound of weed for $10 and just max on a beach and like climb a waterfall or something, but I don’t know yet.
SM: What’s one thing that people probably don’t know about you?
NR: I’m pretty sure I exist in other dimensions.
