Always aiming to push boundries, The Lonely Biscuits decided to take a different approach with their “Pool Day” music video. While their live-action music videos have received widespread acclaim, thousands of new fans and in some cases, over 200,000+ Youtube views, the band still decided to go in a different direction this time around – utilizing McClatchey’s visual arts expertise to bring their phunky-phresh tunes to life. As McClatchey explains, “This was my first time animating my artwork, so the process evolved as I worked on it. It was a new direction for my art as well as their videos.” For more on Shane McClatchey, visit: http://smcclatchey.tumblr.com/.
The Nashville band also announces today they will make their triumphant return as an official artist at this year’s SXSW in Austin, TX – just one year after winning the 2013 mtvU Woodie Award for “College Artist of the Year” andperforming at the mtvU Woodie Awards during SXSW. Still full-time students in college at Belmont University in Nashville, The Lonely Biscuits have already landed major shows including support for The Fray and gigs at Loufest and the upcoming Hangout Music Festival 2014 in Gulf Shores, AL.
Since the win, the band signed with Red Light Management and William Morris Endeavor and hit the studio to release their Fall 2013 EP,Things Sure Have Changed. The album charted on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart, hit the Top 50 iTunes Alternative Charts, and landed the band critical acclaim from The Hollywood Reporter, USA Today, MSN Music, ArtistDirect, FUSE News, Baeble Music, MTV Buzzworthy, and more. The Lonely Biscuits, formerly known as Gravy and the Biscuits, formed in the Fall of 2011. All four members of the band were drawn to Belmont University for its top-notch music and entertainment industry programs. Founding members Grady Wenrich (Rap/Guitar) and Sam Gidley (Drums) were random roommates when they started jamming and making music out of their dorm room. John Paterini (Vocals, Guitar) came into the picture in September after hearing some of their tunes from his dorm room across the hall. Two months later, Nick Byrd(Bass) joined the group, rounding out the band’s sound and solidifying their unique style.
Even with their recent mainstream success over the past year, The Lonely Biscuits maintain a steadfast loyalty and focus on their college fanbases – the ones who landed them the mtvU honor in the first place. The band makes an effort to tour through the college circuit – typically playing to sold-out crowds and drawing hundreds every night to catch their infectious tunes performed live. The band’s focus on cultivating a unique DIY marketing and social media strategy to reach out to these fans across the country hasn’t gone unnoticed. Yahoo!’s Small Business Blog exclaimed, “their marketing has a viral-ready appeal and sensitivity that’s a chart topper.”
